Easter Week Devotional Journey

Easter week is full of insight into the life and death of Jesus Christ. Jesus knew what was coming and He had to prepare His disciples for His death and resurrection. Because Jesus knew what would happen, I believe His last words hold special significance for the Christ-Follower. I do not believe they are more inspired than other words of Christ, I just believe His last words are really focused. With that in mind, I want to invite you to a journey through the last week of the life of Christ. Each day I will blog about what happened that day during Jesus’ last week.

If you choose to journey with me, please subscribe to this blog. You can subscribe by email (There is a place to do this in the upper right hand corner of my blog. It takes a few steps: enter your email address, and then type in the code you are given. You will then receive an email asking you if you want to receive the updates. YOU MUST RESPOND to this email to opt in. You can opt out at any time as well.) There is also the ability to subscribe in a reader if you wish.

Each day we will have a scripture focus, discussion about the main event of the day and then questions for application. Are you up for the journey? If you are, please subscribe!

Baptism Easter Weekend

I found myself wide awake at 4:30am. I couldn’t seem to get back to sleep- so I started praying for Easter weekend. I want us to maximize the opportunity of helping many people take their next step with God. For many people that next step is Baptism.

On Easter weekend we will not only celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we will also celebrate new life in Christ. The Bible says we receive new life (born again) when we trust Christ as our Lord and Savior. In the New Testament the public announcement of faith was believer’s baptism. It let everyone know you were now a Christ-Follower. Baptism is a huge next step for every Christ-Follower. Here is the cool part- we will be baptizing in every service Easter weekend service at Church at the Bay (Friday 7pm, Saturday 4:30 and 6:00pm and Sunday 9:30 and 11:00am)!

Here is my question: Have you been baptized since you trusted Christ? If not, why not? Here are a few verses you may want to check out:

  • Matthew 3:13-15- Jesus is baptized
  • Matthew 28:19-20- Jesus commands Baptism
  • Acts 8:26-40- Baptism as a response to following Christ
  • Acts 9:18- Saul (the Apostle Paul) is baptized

Praying for Easter

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the cornerstone of our faith. 1 Corinthians 15:17 says this,

And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.

The message of resurrection and forgiveness was the driving message of the early church. They wanted everyone to receive the forgiveness that is available through a relationship with Jesus Christ. It is almost 2000 years later and this message still drives the church.

As we approach our annual celebration of the resurrection, I am asking God for the opportunity to see many people take next steps with Christ. I am praying that God would challenge all of us at Church at the Bay to cash in our chips and make the “big ask”. What do I mean by the “big ask”? Inviting your friends who are far from God to attend Easter weekend. Easter is a time when many people are open to attending church. There will be those who have never crossed the line of faith, others who have distanced themselves from God and still others who are on their way back to Him. Many people are just waiting for an invitation. I am asking God to use us big this Easter. To help us prepare for this time I began praying and fasting a month ago. I fast one day a week to focus my prayers on people far from God. Would you pray with me that God will use us to help our friends take their next step with Christ? Maybe you can join me in fasting a day or a meal a week.

What will you ask God for this Easter?
