Monday Morning Download

I taught on parenting this weekend. I started this list on Sunday night and finished it on Monday morning. Here are some very random ideas:

  • Both services were 3 to 1 in saying boyz were easier to raise than girls- I find that very interesting and surprising- do you?
  • This Wednesday night at 9pm we will be doing Q&A on Parenting- I will be recommending several helpful books
  • Crowds were responsive today
  • But I felt a little disconnected this weekend- no- I think a lot. Not sure why- never have done self diagnosis very well
  • Our lights went out at 9:30- Light bar etc- tech team hung in and got us through… Now don’t let it happen again- I mean it ;-]
  • I think I may change topics next weekend.
  • The economy is hitting a lot of families hard at The Bay- please pray for them
  • I miss college and pro football
  • Maybe March Madness will make it all good
  • Sandy and I are doing a marriage intensive with the counselors that will be leading CATB’s marriage Retreat on May 1-2. If they survive and we do too- it will be all good. BTW- we are checking out nice hotels and expect the price for hotel, conference, materials and breakfast to be under $200!
  • Just got back from the gym and I am wiped! Sandy said she would scramble me some eggs! Yeah Sandy!!!
  • I am looking forward to Q&A in our Wednesday night live broadcast- 8PM at www.churchatthebay.tv
  • Hmmmm, after praying this morning we may be chasing John 15 this weekend.

So thats it this Monday Morning- or at least all I can say right now… See you Wednesday Night at 9PM- www.churchatthebay.tv

Fighting for your Kids

This weekend we tackle:

Ultimate Fighting: Fighting for your Kids!

Make sure you come, bring a friend and your cell phone. We will have a time for texting in questions… See you then!

.

Parenting? Surviving? or…

When I was a student pastor (BK- before kids) I used to give advice on parenting all the time, I was a veritable expert. I was willing and ready to give advice. When kids were having a tough time- I would often blame the parents for poor disciple, parenting skills or just being clueless. It seemed I was the professional among bunch of amateurs. I was going to write a book about parenting. In fact, when our kids were young I still thought- no big- this is challenging but very doable. As my kids entered school several things opened my eyes:

  • My kids would do something that embarrassed me and I couldn’t believe it
  • A friends kids would do something similar- and they were doing everything right as far as I could tell
  • I didn’t know everything (personal discovery here- seems everyone else already knew this)
  • Stuff that used to work no longer did
  • I could not control my kids

What happened? All my theories were being tested and found lacking. Sandy and I decided to become students of parenting and re-learn or learn for the first time what Christian parenting is all about. I am so glad we did- it was worth all of our time, effort and money. But let’s be honest- Christian parenting at best is a series of trial, error, praying, engaging, hoping, crying and whatever else you might add. Sandy and I knew our best opportunity to influence this world for Christ would be through our kids. I have also been reminded- they will ultimately choose the retirement home I land in ;-].
So what does effective parenting look like, have as its goal and do? This weekend we will chase that idea as we talk about FIGHTING FOR OUR KIDS. We will also do some Q&A live during the service through text messaging. So here are the people who really need to attend:

  • Those who think they know what they are doing
  • Those who know they don’t
  • Grandparents
  • People who want to have a child
  • People who don’t want to have a child
  • People who know people who have children
  • And anyone who doesn’t fit into the above list.

This will be a great weekend to bring a friend who might have asked my Mom’s favorite question (to my Dad about me) “What the _______ am I going to do with him?”

Our UFC series is full contact! Here are some weekend highlights:

  • The picture above should remind you of this weekend’s message- Cliffs? What we are we doing with barricades and hospitals?
  • If you were wondering what I meant by barricades and hospitals- listen to this weekend fighting for your marriage (posted by Monday afternoon)
  • Ton’s of 1st time guests. I love it when they say “_______ brought me or invited me”. That is our invest and invite strategy. Bring your friends to CATB!!!!
  • I was jacked up this weekend. The 9:30 service was engaged with the message at a WNL (whole nutha level). I am not saying 11am was slow… just sayin- 9:30 brought the energy. Although I will admit sometime they laughed at that wasn’t the response I was hoping for- I think?
  • Home Teams are launching and I hope you are already locked in. If not go here and check it out. Need more info- neal@churchatthebay.com
  • Met with Home team leaders Sunday night aka- the Pastor’s of CATB. We believe the term pastor is a verb and not a title. It describes how you live!
  • By the way- we have our church wide marriage retreat scheduled for May 1-2. Make plans now- forget the lame excuses. Motel and conference less than $200. Got a good marriage- plan to attend- a bad marriage- plan to attend. Basically if you are married I want you there.
  • 2 people made 1st time commitments to Christ – and that is what really matters!
  • Next week, Fighting for your Friends! Have a lot of friends- we will talk about home to be a real friend. Not enough friends- better be here- why not bring a friend!
  • By the way- welcome back – attendance was up over 20% from last week (yep we count! People matter). I knew the Superbowl was a distraction- too bad I only knew it afterward!
  • Middle School rocked out this weekend- ton’s of new faces. My question- will the High Schoolers bring the same energy?
  • Praying for Jeremy Higdon @ Oasis Church and his launch in Jacksonville this weekend and another friend who launched in San Francisco- Andy Wood at South Bay Church. Both had strong launches- now the real work begins.
  • Our next Partners class is February 15? Can you bring it at a Partner level- why not check it out. Email here to sign up.
Let’s make it an
invest and invite weekend!
