Hosea 2:6-7

For this reason I will fence her in with thorn bushes. I will block her path with a wall to make her lose her way. When she runs after her lovers, she won’t be able to catch them. She will search for them but not find them. Then she will think, “I might as well return to my husband, for I was better off with him than I am now.”

Often times we ask God to save us from uncomfortable circumstances: tight finances, health problems, relationship issues, etc. Sometimes we need to realize that God is trying to use these circumstances to save us from ourselves. We all have a tendency to drift from Him. We drift towards finding security in our wealth and relationships instead of Him. We drift towards making a name for ourselves instead of making His name known. We drift towards trying to impress others and build our own ego instead of seeking His favor. We drift towards pride, laziness, self-centeredness, and so much more. This past Sunday we learned from the life of the prophet Hosea how God uses the circumstances of life to point us to Him. The consequences to our bad decisions and the tough circumstances we face remind us of the value and necessity of God for our lives. Instead of trying to escape tough times, we need to allow them to drive us to Christ.
