I am not sure who said it first, but they were right, VISION LEAKS! You have experienced this leakage in your life- but maybe you did not recognize it when it happened. See if you resonate:

  • Remember your vision when you went to college and got the degree that would help you improve the world or you started the job that you just loved because of what it meant and the vision of what could be? Work didn’t seem like work and you enjoyed it. But, over time, you lost your passion and it was no longer about this grand vision- it became about a paycheck. You look back and say- “What Happened.” This is what happened- VISION LEAKED!
  • Remember when you first got married and had all the dreams, plans and a clear vision for your marriage and how it would be “different” than other marriages? Then, over time, you forgot the love and commitment that brought you together and start setting rules and responsibilities for the “family”. Soon you discovered that you were busy doing stuff but forgot the “WHY”. People say things like I just fell out of love. What happened? VISION LEAKED!

Vision must be renewed, revisited and rehearsed often because it leaks and leaves the sludge of the duties of rules and responsibilities. It is the same way for the Christ Follower and the Church. So many Christ Followers and Churches start well but soon it becomes about rules and responsibilities! What happened? VISION LEAKED!

We cast vision regularly at Church at the Bay because- VISION LEAKS!
God has given us a vision to be a prevailing and growing Church that “helps people establish a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and equips them to become difference makers.” We can never sit back and just coast- even if we are going downhill. Because over 80% of our friends, neighbors and co-workers do not attend a church and most don’t know Christ personally. If CATB forgets her vision we become about rules, responsibilities and duty and forget “a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.” Jesus paid the way for this mission and we are a church that continually embraces anything that helps us kick a dent in Hell! We take risks (the biblical word for that is faith) and go to the edge because people matter to God!
I am honored to be the lead pastor of a church that has said it’s all about the mission. By the way- here is the mission in Jesus’ words:

  • 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matt hew 28:18-20 (NLT)
