Monday Morning Quarterback… On Tuesday

This is my Monday Morning Quarterback on Tuesday. We celebrated the Lord’s Supper this weekend. If you were out of town you can watch the video:

Okay, Church at the Bay, let’s make this week count as we invite our friends to attend the 1st week of our new teaching series- “Faith, Hope and Luck”! Please click on the Facebook event below to say you are attending and to invite your friends.

Let’s be alert to all the people in the office, neighborhood, family or sitting in the bleachers with you that need to experience hope. I wonder who it is in your sphere of influence that is one invite away from beginning a relationship with Jesus Christ? Will you make the invite?

Celebrate?

The Lord’s Supper and Baptism are the two ordinances Jesus prescribed for the New Testament Church. An ordinance does not give you extra grace or standing with God. Rather, they are practices that Jesus instituted, the Apostles taught and the early church practiced. Both ordinances point to the cross. This weekend we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper (Communion). Here are some passages I want you to read about this practice:

So what is the Lord’s Supper?

  • A celebration of all Jesus accomplished on the cross? Yes!
  • A memorial for us to remember the price that was paid? Yes!
  • A time of introspection and evaluation? Yes!
  • A time to look forward? YES!

So plan to attend Sunday as we celebrate, remember, evaluate and look forward.
The following 9 minute video uses Old and New Testament passages to describe what the Lord’s Supper is all about. Please take a moment to watch, I believe it will inspire all of us.

A Great Weekend!

This was our last weekend of OZ (the picture above was designed by a couple of our troubled students, they posted it on my Facebook wall- S/S)! I was really pumped to see so many first time guests- way to bring your friends CATB! I met a newbie to CATB on the way in with 6 friends in tow. They said- “It’s the last week of OZ and I wanted my friends to see it”. So before I get into my bullet points from the weekend, here is the 2 minute OZ interruption from this weekend. You gotta admit he sounds more like Dorothy!

Quick hits from the weekend:

  • I think we need to call the sidewalk up to the auditorium the “mall”. I mean it seems like there are nearly 100 people hanging out and connecting.
  • The bounce houses are a hoot. Watching the 4th grade boys act “surprised” as they make it collapse to one side is hilarious. Its safe and no one gets hurt- but they don’t “miss-speak” very well!
  • If you didn’t sign up to schedule a date for your block party you can do so this weekend also. We have a bounce house and trailer you can use if you schedule with Don.
  • Are you ready for some football? Finally!
  • There were a lot of new people this weekend- I hope you introduced yourself to someone new.
  • CATB at the food court was really good. We owned the end of the food court near Chick-fil-a. Thank you for breaking up the clicks and meeting new people- it was fun to watch everyone connecting. It’s called family.
  • Next weekend we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Make sure you come and bring a friend.

If you missed this weekend here is the teaching video:

No You Cannot! But Maybe…

No church can create community! Agree or Disagree? I totally agree. That may surprise you since Church at the Bay really pushes the idea that we all need to have a group of people who we know and they know us. Instead of forcing community and connection- we create environments that are catalytic to community. I know some people feel that life is between them and Jesus. The problem is half of the Great Commandment requires community. And, there are dozens of “one another” commands in the new Testament that are impossible to obey unless we are in community. Commands like:

  • Love one another
  • Serve one another
  • Forgive one another

At the end of this blog I have attached a document that lists all the “one another” commands of the New Testament. So I am not going to argue for community, I want to talk about two of our multiple places where community can be discovered.

Home Teams
- Our Home Teams launch a mini- test drive- semester of four weeks, this next week. If you need more information go here. You will discover all the answers to your Home Team questions. Why not take a test drive- money back guarantee! You can also sign up this weekend.

CATB at the Food Court-
This Sunday (after the fastest tear down in history) Church at the Bay is heading over to the food court at Citrus Park Mall. We will own the western portion of the court (Chick-fil-a end). Plan to bring the family, a friend, meet some new people and eat what you want.

Church at the Bay, I pray we become the church community that God is calling us to and you experience real community.
