Hal – awesome as usual.
I have had two business ventures fail in the past two years and I’ve been laid off 5x in the previous 10-yrs. My knee-jerk reaction: pull away from God, feel defeated and retreat from life. With God’s help, through many channels (CATB, the holy word, Christian friends, books, and more), God is showing up big in my life.
As far as financial adversity, I remind myself of the story of the widow women who gave away her last (very last) loaf of bread to follow God’s request: feed your guest first, then I’ll take care of you. Like this widow, I’ve been giving over more and more to Him (first); and God is fulfilling every promise. Even when I tithe on income I haven’t even received yet, God shows me I can trust Him … and the income follows.
Is it easy to do? No. But God always reinforces me as He slowly raises the bar on His expectations. Hal, maybe that’s what God’s doing FOR you; raising the bar:).
In closing, I want to thank you for a special gift you gave us at The Bay on Easter. I read this passage almost every day:
Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally — not a bad idea since He’s the God who raises the dead! 2 Corinthians 1:9. Amen!
